Tabalong is South Kalimantan's northernmost regency, bordering East Kalimantan directly and sitting on the trans-Kalimantan route toward Balikpapan. Its economy leans heavily on coal mining, with Tanjung and its surrounds serving as the operating base for PT Adaro Energy, one of Indonesia's largest coal producers. That mining activity lifts local purchasing power and keeps housing demand steady along the Tanjung, Murung Pudak corridor.
Murung Pudak, right next to Tanjung, is now Tabalong's fastest-growing pocket for new housing. Subsidized estates such as Griya Plambon Asri and Pondok Karet Permai have sprung up to serve mining-sector workers and their supporting businesses, with type-36 homes a popular pick for first-time buyers. If your budget stretches further, non-subsidized houses in Murung Pudak and Tanjung offer two to three bedrooms in more established estates.
Beyond the town centre, Kelua to the south is known for its busy public market, drawing buyers all the way from Hulu Sungai Utara, which gives homes near this trading hub their own rental appeal. Haruai and Muara Uya to the north are still dominated by rubber and palm plantations with lower population density, a fit for buyers wanting more land and a quieter pace.
Unlike Banjarmasin, which sits on a swampy delta, Tabalong's terrain tends to be hilly and drier, at the foot of the Meratus mountain range, so foundation costs are generally lighter. Still, check a plot's closeness to the Tabalong river, and confirm the certificate's legality and any subsidy status before applying for a mortgage (KPR).

Does Vorneo Property have an office in Tabalong?
Not yet. Our team is based in Banjarmasin and serves Tabalong buyers remotely, from legality checks and KPR simulations to connecting you with trusted partners for an on-site visit.
Who can buy a subsidized home in Murung Pudak?
Subsidized housing is generally reserved for first-time buyers earning below the government's income threshold, often taken up by mining-sector workers and their supporting businesses in Tabalong. We can help check your eligibility before you apply.
Is the ground in Tabalong safe to build on, without Banjarmasin's swamp issues?
Generally yes. Tabalong's terrain is hillier and drier, near the foot of the Meratus range, so the swamp and peat risk is far lower than in Banjarmasin. Still check a plot's closeness to rivers and local drainage before buying.
