Tanah Bumbu Regency, with Batulicin as its capital, is one of the fastest-growing areas on South Kalimantan's southeastern coast, driven by coal mining, oil palm plantations, and the activity of Pelabuhan Batulicin, a port that has handled exports since the colonial era. It sits roughly 5–6 hours by road from Banjarmasin, giving its housing market a character of its own, far from the provincial capital's bustle but growing fast alongside the miners and port workers who settle here.

Most of the new housing supply in Tanah Bumbu today is subsidised type-36 housing in Simpang Empat, Kusan Hilir, and around Batulicin, typically priced Rp100–185 million through the KPR FLPP mortgage scheme.
